DUI charge for Alabama man who crashed into Michigan house

An Alabama man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police say he crashed his car into a home in Michigan. The man was charged with DUI and unlawfully leaving an accident.

Local police were alerted to the DUI suspect when he was allegedly involved in a hit and run accident with a tractor-trailer. After a brief search, the suspect was found in the vehicle involved in the crash. Not wishing to be arrested, the man took off when officers attempted to stop him. He led the Michigan authorities on a brief chase before crashing into a home. The impact was severe enough that the Jaws of Life was required to extricate him from the automobile, though damage to the home was said to be minimal. Police claim the car involved was stolen. It was badly damaged in the accident.

The man was taken by medical personnel to OSF St. Francis Hospital and was then transferred to Marquette General Hospital. He was later transferred to Delta County jail.

Being charged with driving under the influence is a serious matter that often requires legal counsel. Persons convicted of the charges can face many consequences including jail time, fines and high insurance costs, in addition to the loss of driving privileges and other penalties.

Nevertheless, each person accused of a crime in Alabama, as well as Michigan, is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law. That and other important legal rights will need to be protected as the man fights for his continued liberty and an acceptable outcome to all criminal allegations.
