Alabama man faces drug trafficking charges

An Alabama man will likely be in need of a strong criminal defense after he was indicted earlier this month by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking charges.

The man's troubles began in May 2010 when he took a safe to a local locksmith after he forgot the code to open the safe. The man allegedly told the locksmith he could have a portion of the money if did not alert the authorities.

However, the locksmith did call law enforcement, and when authorities opened the safe they found close to $900,000. Police claim that dogs smelled drugs on the money. The money was then seized by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

The man sued the locksmith and argued that he earned the money legitimately through a car dealership and other properties.

Six months later, the man was pulled over in Arizona. Police claim to have found 1,500 pounds of marijuana and about $11,000 in cash.

The man is currently in the Shelby County Jail awaiting extradition to Arizona to face the drug trafficking charges.

Although the man faces serious drug charges, he is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. As always, those who have been charged with a crime still have rights. They are entitled to a strong defense and a fair trial.

Anyone in Alabama who faces drug charges such as these would be wise to consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney can investigate the evidence in a case and prepare a strong defense against the charges.
