Alabama man charged with DUI after leading police on chase

Someone who is caught drinking and driving in Alabama may face harsh penalties. However, those penalties may increase if a person faces additional charges.

A 39-year-old Alabama man was arrested earlier this month and charged with attempting to elude police and DUI.

The man reportedly led police on a 10-mile chase. According to authorities, the man did not have his headlights on and was driving erratically. Around 11 p.m., a police officer noticed the vehicle and attempted to stop the man, but he continued driving. Deputies with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office joined in the chase. When the man finally stopped, he was taken into custody by authorities.

According to one source, the man did hit a police officer's car. However, his rate of speed was slow enough that it did not cause any damage to the vehicle.

Although someone may have been charged with a crime, an individual still has rights. They are entitled to a strong defense and a fair trial.

Someone in a similar situation would be wise to work with an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney can investigate a case to be sure authorities acted appropriately during an arrest. An attorney can also negotiate with prosecutors while vigorously defending an individual against the charges.

Despite what people may think, those who have been charged with a crime may feel frightened and overwhelmed. The legal system is complicated and it may seem like a hopeless situation for some. Fortunately, there are places to turn for legal help.
