Registered sex offender arrested in Birmingham

Being accused of a sex crime in Alabama and elsewhere is serious. In fact, those who are convicted on sex crimes charges will likely be forced to register as a sex offender. Some people may even have to register for the rest of their lives.

A registered sex offender was recently arrested in Birmingham after authorities say he failed to register at his new address. The 43-year-old man has been charged with violating the sex offender act for not alerting authorities that his address had changed. Authorities also say he is in violation of the act for living within 2,000 feet of a school.

Additionally, the man faces new accusations in Florida. According to authorities, warrants have been issued for his arrest after he was charged with committing a lewd and lascivious act with a child.

As evidenced by this most recent case, a conviction for a sex crime can affect a person for the rest of their lives. Even a mere accusation can tarnish an individual's reputation.

Because of the potential severe punishments, an individual who is accused of committing a sex crime would be wise to begin working with an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney can investigate the evidence in a case and create a strong defense against the charges while ensuring that their client's rights are protected.

In addition, it is important for people to remember that an accusation is very different than a conviction. Those who are charged with a crime are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
