Saleem Rasheed, a former Alabama football player, has been arrested for engaging in a sexual relationship with two students at Woodlawn High School. For the past few years, Rasheed has been working as a teacher and coach at schools in the Birmingham area. Since 2011, he has been at Woodlawn High School.
The Birmingham Police Department released a statement on April 13, 2012 announcing that during their investigation they found not one, but two students having a relationship with Rasheed. The same day, the Birmingham Police Departments Crime Reduction Team apprehended the suspect without incident.
Rasheed is charged with two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student and two other counts involving a school employee engaging in a deviate sex act. Rasheed is in the custody at the Jefferson County Jail and each count he is being charged with has a $100,000 bond.
It is not clear at this point how this case will end, but it illustrates how important it is for someone facing these types of charges to have a strong criminal defense and a chance to tell their side of the story in court.
