Routine Traffic Stop Leads to High Speed Chase

An Alabaster man has been charged with one count of attempted murder, two counts of attempted assault, reckless endangerment, and attempting to elude police after a routine traffic stop lead to a dangerous police chase. Police say Courtney Sherrod Kennedy was being pulled over for an expired tag when he sped away before being issued a citation. Alabaster Deputy Police Chief Curtis Rigney said in a statement that Kennedy had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest when the traffic stop occurred.

Birmingham Man Charged With Robbery

A 19 year-old Birmingham man who recently fled a Birmingham hospital after being charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree escape is being investigated on two counts of first-degree robbery in connection to another holdup that occurred several months ago. Deandre Miles stands accused of a Birmingham home invasion and is being investigated for the robbery of two men at another Birmingham home two months earlier. Both crimes occurred in broad daylight.

Montgomery Man Faces Bribery Charges

A federal grand jury has indicted Montgomery resident James Potts, 56, with a federal crime relating to his involvement in a bribery scheme while he was working as an employee for the state.

Alabama man faces capital murder charges

A 22-year-old Alabama man could face the death penalty if he is convicted of capital murder charges. The 22-year-old faces three capital murder charges along with two counts of second-degree assault after he allegedly opened fire at a party near Auburn University.

Birmingham's High Crime Rate

The FBI has just released its newest crime statistics for the Birmingham area, reflecting all the crimes reported by the Birmingham Police Department in 2011. While the official 2010 numbers have never been made available to compare, it seems that the overall number of crimes in Birmingham is on the decline. The 57 homicides in Birmingham for 2011 was the fewest amount on record since 1966 when there were 56. This pattern would reflect the FBI's finding that crime rates are down in almost every region in the country.

Alabama Native and NFL Star Charged with DUI

Alabama native Nick Fairley, the Detroit Lines defensive tackle, was arrested in Mobile County, AL, for driving under the influence and attempting to elude state troopers. This is his second arrest within two months in Alabama.

Jefferson County Man Arrested for Indoor Marijuana Growing Operation

Authorities announced that a man in a small Jefferson County community has been arrested on counts of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of marijuana and carrying a pistol without a license after police discovered marijuana growing inside his home.
