Alabama man charged with DUI and manslaughter after fatal crash

Although the media often blames the survivor of a drunk driving crash, there may be instances when the accident victim is also at fault.

Recently, two Alabama men were involved in a drunk driving accident. The crash happened around 12:45 a.m. According to police, a 41-year-old motorcyclist lost control and collided with a pickup truck being driven by a 32-year-old man. The motorcyclist was flown to a nearby hospital. However, he later died.

Police say that both drivers were reckless and that alcohol was likely a factor in the fatal accident. Despite police acknowledging the motorcyclist's careless behavior, they charged the 32-year-old driver of the pickup truck with manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

This story is tragic, and the victim's family is likely continuing to grieve his death. However, could the 32-year-old driver simply be guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

In situations like this, serious questions must be raised. Although the 41-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life, the driver of the pickup also has a great deal to lose. If convicted, he could spend time behind bars. He may also face fines and could have his driver's license taken away.

In all criminal cases, and especially cases like this one, it is best to rely on an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney will investigate the evidence in a case to be sure law enforcement acted appropriately. When people are pulled over for DUI, law enforcement officers must follow specific procedures. If those procedures are not followed, certain pieces of evidence may be challenged in court.
