DUI Arrests In Huntsville Highest In The State

It's a weekend night in Huntsville, which means there is likely to be a roadblock set up by Huntsville's finest. This past year Huntsville led the state with 989 DUI arrests, that's over twice the DUI arrests of any other municipality in the state. The city of Auburn came in a distant second with 473 DUI arrests followed by Mobile (453), Decatur (421), and Birmingham (327). The Huntsville officers responsible for many of these arrests are a part of a special unit called the Driving under the influence unit, and its not the first year that Huntsville has had such high numbers. They have had the most DUI arrests in the state for the past 15years running.

Birmingham police claim to have solved 2002 murder case

Authorities in Birmingham recently announced that they have filed charges against a man 10 years after an off-duty police officer was shot to death at a local restaurant. Police will not say what led them to the accused. However, the 31-year-old man is currently serving time at the St. Clair Correctional Facility for unrelated charges.

Birmingham Theft Suspect Found Hiding In Home

Lee Osborne, 23, of McCalla, was arrested for theft this week after police found him hiding at a home in Sylvan Springs. Jefferson County sheriff's deputies and Mountain Brook police say they took extra precaution in the apprehension of Osborne, who they say held his small child hostage and barricaded himself last time police attempted to arrest him.

Police charge Birmingham man with capital murder

A 39-year-old Birmingham man will likely be in need of a strong criminal defense team after he was recently charged with capital murder and attempted murder for allegedly shooting two men in an apartment in the Ensley neighborhood earlier this month. One of the men died. The other was treated at UAB Hospital before being released.

Police Raid Leads To Drug Charges For Birmingham Woman

A Birmingham woman has been arrested for trafficking heroin after an investigation by police led them to a motel room in Hueytown. La Vores Delte Griffin, 32, was charged with various drug charges including: trafficking heroin, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia after a drug task force made up of Hueytown and Pleasant Grove police officers performed a surprise drug raid on her motel room around 9:30 AM.

Birmingham man faces criminal charges following weekend shooting

One man is dead and another is facing serious criminal charges after a dispute at a Birmingham home turned violent. Police have charged a 33-year-old man with capital murder, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

DUI Crackdown Expected On Fourth Of July Holiday

The Alabama Department of Public Safety has announced that there will be a four-day safety crackdown by state troopers surrounding the Fourth of July holiday. Beginning at 12:01 AM on Wednesday and lasting through midnight Sunday, state troopers will be out in full force patrolling Alabama highways in an attempt to make roads safer for the high number of expected holiday travelers.
