Alabama pediatrician faces federal charges

In Alabama and beyond, a criminal charge of any kind is serious. However, because of the government's vast resources, people who face charges for federal crimes could face potentially devastating penalties.

A pediatrician in his first year of residency at an Alabama hospital faces federal charges for allegedly enticing a child for sex on the Internet. Federal officials claim that the 30-year-old man placed an ad on Craigslist. An undercover officer pretending to be a 15-year-old boy set up a meeting with the man. Authorities arrested the man at his apartment complex a few hours later.

The 30-year-old pediatrician has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His trial is scheduled to begin in September.

As with all criminal cases, the man remains innocent until proven guilty. His attorney has pointed to the brief investigation by authorities as a possible defense. Testimony from a lead investigator shows that only a few hours passed from the time the undercover officer responded to the advertisement on Craigslist to the time of the man's arrest.

The pediatrician is a resident of India. He had been in the United States for 11 months prior to his arrest. At this time, he remains behind bars and will likely stay there until his trial begins.

The man's attorney appears to have already begun planning a defense against the charges. No matter how serious the charges may be, everyone is entitled to a strong criminal defense. In a situation like this, an attorney will review the evidence in the case to determine the best course of action going forward.
