A 39-year-old Birmingham man will likely be in need of a strong criminal defense team after he was recently charged with capital murder and attempted murder for allegedly shooting two men in an apartment in the Ensley neighborhood earlier this month. One of the men died. The other was treated at UAB Hospital before being released.
According to one report, the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. at the Parkview Apartments. Police claim that one of the men was asleep when he heard his roommate calling for him in the kitchen. When the man walked into the kitchen he saw that his 32-year-old roommate had been shot. The 39-year-old man charged in the shooting allegedly shot the other roommate in the leg. The roommate then returned fire and wounded the 39-year-old man before he fled.
Authorities claim they were led to the accused after he went to UAB Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. According to police, the 39-year-old man said he had been robbed.
Police are not yet sure what the motive for the shooting was. They have also not said whether or not the victim's roommate will be charged for allegedly shooting the accused in the leg.
A case like this is complex. When Birmingham residents find themselves in a similar situation it is often wise to rely on an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney will sort through the evidence in a case and vigorously defend an individual against the charges.
Although the authorities believe they have the right man in custody, a conviction can only be secured after prosecutors have proven an individual's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. With a strong defense, a person could face lesser charges and even reduced penalties.
