A Birmingham woman has been arrested for trafficking heroin after an investigation by police led them to a motel room in Hueytown. La Vores Delte Griffin, 32, was charged with various drug charges including: trafficking heroin, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia after a drug task force made up of Hueytown and Pleasant Grove police officers performed a surprise drug raid on her motel room around 9:30 AM.
According to officials, Griffin was a mid-level drug dealer and had more than four grams of heroin in the motel room when police arrived. While police were in the room, two other people showed up and were arrested after admitting they were there to buy heroin.
Griffin's arrest was the result of an increased effort to halt the distribution of heroin in the area. Jefferson County officials say a recent spike in the use of heroin around Birmingham led to 23 deaths in the county in just four months. Area police have held drug awareness programs in an effort to curb the recent rise in use.
Griffin is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail after being charged with the various drug crimes and could face serious jail time if convicted. Important to remember, however, is that she remains innocent until proven guilty and prosecutors will have to prove her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt if the case makes it to trial. If you or someone you know has been arrested for a drug related crime, contact an experienced attorney who can help fight for your innocence.
