23-year-old Birmingham man believed to be involved in fatal weekend shooting

A 23-year-old Birmingham man was recently charged with murder for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of a 26-year-old man.

The shooting took place around 9:40 p.m. on Sept. 29. Police were called after shots were fired along the 800 block of 50th St. N. in Birmingham. When they arrived, they found a 26-year-old man had been shot. He was taken to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. However, he was later pronounced dead.

The 23-year-old man who police say was involved in the man's death was also injured in the incident. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Reports indicate that his injuries are not life-threatening. When he is released from the hospital he will be taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

It is easy for the media and general public to assume this man is guilty. However, as is the case with all criminal charges, the accused remains innocent unless they are proven guilty in a court of law. Prosecutors must use the evidence in the case to prove to jurors that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Only then can a conviction be secured.

In a situation like this, the accused would be wise to consult with a criminal defense attorney. Although penalties for a murder conviction can be quite severe, a person who faces serious criminal charges should not give up hope. An experienced criminal defense attorney will vigorously defend an individual against the charges and work towards a favorable outcome.
