19-year-old charged for alleged involvement in September shooting

A 19-year-old man faces serious criminal charges. He was arrested recently for his alleged involvement in a September shooting that left an 18-year-old Birmingham man dead.

The 19-year-old was booked into the Jefferson County Jail around 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 5. He is charged with murder.

Although authorities do not know what led to the 18-year-old's murder, he was reportedly found on a Birmingham sidewalk with a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries a few hours later.

The accused in this case is a young man with a full life ahead of him. A murder conviction in this case could result in severe penalties.

It is unclear what led police to the 19-year-old man. Authorities often rely on eyewitness accounts. However, witness testimony is often unreliable. People often have difficulties identifying an individual if they are a distance away or if it is dark outside.

Because a murder charge is one of the most serious criminal charges an individual can face, those accused of such a crime would be best served working with an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney will examine the evidence in a case and work to point out flaws in the prosecution's case.

In certain criminal cases, it is wise to vigorously fight the charges in court. However, there may be instances when pursuing a plea agreement is best. A plea agreement may result in reduced charges and less severe penalties. Using their past experience, a criminal defense attorney will work towards the most optimal outcome for the accused.
