Federal authorities in Birmingham charge woman with bank fraud

White collar crimes typically involve some form of financial theft. Although white collar crimes are usually not violent crimes, people can still face tough penalties if they are convicted.

In Birmingham, a woman was recently charged with bank fraud. She is accused of stealing more than $900,000 from the moving company she worked for over a period of six years.

In situations like this, the media and people in the general public may be quick to judge. However, many people have experienced financial difficulties in recent years. The tough economy may have led some people to do things they normally wouldn't do.

When people are accused of committing serious crimes, they could end up facing harsh penalties. Penalties may include time behind bars, fines and probation. A conviction and subsequent penalties could impact a person's entire life.

However, before a conviction can be secured, prosecutors must prove that a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In white collar crimes cases, that may not be so easy.

People in Birmingham who face charges for alleged white collar crimes may find it best to begin working with an experienced criminal defense attorney. An attorney can review the evidence in a case and begin planning a strong defense against the charges. With the right help, the accused could face reduced charges and lesser penalties.

Criminal charges of any kind can be hard to face alone. The criminal justice system can seem overwhelming and frightening. Fortunately, there are places to turn for help.
