Birmingham detective arrested for alleged involvement in domestic dispute

A recent story out of Birmingham shows that no one is immune to criminal charges, even law enforcement officers who promise to protect and serve the public.

Police say a 49-year-old detective was arrested at his home after they received a call about a domestic violence situation. Authorities arrived at the detective's home where a woman said she was involved in a "physical confrontation." The 49-year-old man was arrested and charged with domestic violence/physical harassment.

This is the third Birmingham police officer to be arrested since the beginning of the year. Another officer was arrested for alleged domestic violence. A third was arrested for reportedly attempting to flee from officers during a traffic stop.

While police reportedly arrested the Birmingham police officer in this most recent case due to evidence presented to them at the home, both sides of the story must be told before an individual can be convicted of a crime. After all, there are times when police officers misunderstand what is really going on.

When people are charged with a crime, they could face serious penalties such as fines and time behind bars. In addition, they could suffer damage to their reputation. Criminal charges can even affect a person's job.

For these reasons, seeking the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney is usually best. An attorney will work on behalf of their client to determine what the best defense strategy is. Although facing criminal charges can be an overwhelming experience, an attorney will work hard to achieve the most optimal outcome for the accused.
